John Burnham Schwartz wurde 1965 geboren. Er machte seinen Abschluss an der Harvard-Universität im Bereich Ostasiatische Studien. Nach dem überragenden Erfolg seines Erstlingswerks "Die Geheimnisse von Tokio" gab er die geplante Manager-Karriere auf, um sich ganz dem Schreiben zu widmen. Mittlerweile hat er drei Romane vorgelegt. Schwarz lebt mit seiner Frau, der Filmemacherin Aleksandra Crapanzano, in Brooklyn, New York.
