This paper seeks to explain the container handling system in place at the Port of Rio Grande. It presents the concepts that help to reveal the proposed understanding, demonstrating the historical processes, the existing layout, the handling rates, and the port hinterland. The specialized area and shipping lines are defined, and the rates of the Port of Rio Grande are compared with those of other port regions around the world. In addition, this work carries out specific analyses of the main types of goods handled by the Port of Rio Grande, identifying everything from the location of companies and the differences in transport processes to the commercial destinations of the products. Finally, it presents the results of the research in a comprehensive manner and the importance of the continuous evolution of this logistics segment, as well as studies of this nature.

Graduated and Master in Geography from the Federal University of Rio Grande. For ten years he worked as a commercial analyst at the container terminal of the port of Rio Grande, always developing academic research within the port theme. He is currently a civil servant linked to the Secretariat of Public Security of the State of Rio Grande do Sul.
