Produktbeschreibung
The HIV virus has become one of the most feared contagions for humans. It is a global epidemic that involves political, social, and scientific forces in search of a solution, offering hope for millions of people. Oiapoque is known not only for its geographical location, but also for having been in the past (and still being) a place of gold mining. What few people know are the problems it suffers from: extreme poverty; poor health, education, and basic sanitation conditions; drug trafficking; and a high rate of prostitution. But what do these things have in common? This work provides information that is forgotten in government databases without proper analysis and reflection. A brief history of Oiapoque, with all the relevant notes for local epidemiological understanding, is cited alongside the development of strategies for treating and tracking the spread of HIV for a critical-reflective analysis of the influence of the environment on the year-on-year increase in population contamination. The aim here is to raise awareness and draw readers' attention to problems in places that we often know only by name or from the TV screen, but which are nonetheless part of Brazil.
