Each chapter comprehensively discusses key aspects of the topic including instructional strategies, evaluation principles and self-directed learning. Different learning models like class room teaching, small group learning, chair side teaching in the clinics to modelling and simulation are discussed as well as principles of assessment including setting up a question paper for written examination to more objective practical and clinical assessment strategies such as OSCE, OSPE and OSVE. The topics covered in each chapter are chosen based on current evidence from dental educational research and range from educational objectives to mentoring and work place based assessment among dental students. In order to provide the best possible education, dental teachers need to be constantly improving in their faculties as an effective educator. Prof. Baiju R M (Orcid ID: 0000-0002-9682-3209) is currently working as Professor in the Department of Periodontics, Government Dental College. He is also post graduate Guide since 2011. He is an internationally qualified specialist periodontist and have passed the Membership in Periodontics examination from all the three Royal Colleges of Dental surgery in the UK. Dr Baiju was awarded PhD in Dentistry by the University of Kerala in 2019. He was awarded an international Fellowship in Dentistry by the prestigious Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FDS RCPS Glasg) in March 2021 and Specialty fellowship in Periodontology from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Since 2020 he is an approved PhD Guide of the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS). He is a hugely popular teacher with more than 21 years of teaching experience. He has supervised more than 14 post graduate dissertations. He has contributed two chapters to text books in periodontology. Widely sought after orator and opinion leader in regenerative medicine and oral implantology. Prof. Baiju has delivered over 150 Key note and Invited lectures in national/international meetings. He is an approved PG examiner for various universities and Question paper setter for several universities and boards. He is an Associate member of the British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry (BSP) since 2019. He is the Editor in Chief of Journal of Clinical Dentistry and former editorial board member of Health Sciences, official e journal of KUHS. Prof Baiju was a member of Board of studies (UG) of University of Kerala. He received several awards and recognitions - Excellence in Dentistry award for contribution to the field of periodontics and Interdisciplinary dentistry by International Association of Interdisciplinary Dentistry (AIOI www.aioiindia.org).. Dr Baiju is an invited reviewer of several peer reviewed International scientific journals including Clinical Case Reports (Wiley- Blackwell ), International Journal of Dental Hygiene, Journal of Indian Society of Periodontology (www.journalonweb/jisp), Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research (www.jcdr.net), BMJ Case reports, Hindawi Journals, Paediatric Health, Medicine and Therapuetics, Dovepress Interdisciplinary Journal of Healthcare, Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dentistry and Clinical Epidemiology. He has recently published a book with Springer titled “Nano materials in dental medicine”. He has more than 50 international peer reviewed publications with over 1125 citations. In 2024 he received the “Best Teacher Award” from the Kerala University of Health Sciences. Professor Sabu Thomas is the former Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University .He is also a professor of Polymer Science and Engineering at the School of Chemical Sciences of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, India and the Founder Director and Professor of the International and Interuniversity Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Prof. Thomas is an outstanding leader with sustained international acclaims for his work in Nanoscience, Polymer Science and Engineering, Polymer Nanocomposites, Elastomers, Polymer Blends, Interpenetrating Polymer Networks, Polymer Membranes, Green Composites and Nanocomposites, Nanomedicine and Green Nanotechnology. Dr. Thomas’s ground breaking inventions in polymer nanocomposites, polymer blends, green bionanotechnological and nano-biomedical sciences, have made transformative differences in the development of new materials for automotive, space, housing and biomedical fields. In collaboration with India’s premier tyre company, Apollo Tyres, Professor Thomas’s group invented new high performance barrier rubber nanocomposite membranes for inner tubes and inner liners for tyres. Professor Thomas has received a number of national and international awards which include: Fellowship of the Royal Society of Chemistry, London FRSC, Distinguished Professorship from Josef Stefan Institute, Slovenia, MRSI medal, Nano Tech Medal, CRSI medal, Distinguished Faculty Award, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Award for Scientific Excellence – 2016, Mahatma Gandhi University- Award for Outstanding Contribution – Nov. 2016, Lifetime Achievement Award of the Malaysian Polymer Group, Indian Nano Biologists award 2017 and SukumarMaithy Award for the best polymer researcher in the country. He is in the list of most productive researchers in India and holds a position of No.5. Because of the outstanding contributions to the field of Nanoscience and Polymer Science and Engineering, Prof. Thomas has been conferred HonorisCausa (D.Sc) Doctorate by the University of South Brittany, Lorient, France and University of Lorraine, Nancy, France. Very recently, Prof. Thomas has been awarded Senior Fulbright Fellowship to visit 20 Universities in the US and most productive faculty award in the domain Materials Sciences. Very recently he was also awarded with National Education Leadership Award – 2017 for Excellence in Education. Prof Thomas also won 6th contest of "mega-grants" in the grant competition of the Government of the Russian Federation (Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation) designed to support research projects implemented under the supervision of the world’s leading scientists. He has been honoured with Faculty Research Award of India’s brightest minds in the field of academic research in May 2018. Professor Thomas was awarded with Trila – Academician of The Yearin June 2018 acknowledging his contribution to tyre industry. In 2019 Professor Thomas has been selected as a member of Prestigious European Academy of Sciences. Last year he was honoured with C.N.R Rao Award Prize Lecture In Advanced Materials” by Materials Research Society of India (MRSI). In 2019 Professor Thomas has been selected as a member of Prestigious European Academy of Sciences. He was also selected as the Fellow of International Academy of Physical Sciences and was honoured with Life Time Acheivement award from Indian Association of Solid State Chemists and Allied Scientists (ISCAS). Professor Thomas has published over 1200 peer reviewed research papers, reviews and book chapters. He has co-edited 137 books published by Royal Society, Wiley, Wood head, Elsevier, CRC Press, Springer, and Nova etc. He is the inventor of 15 patents. The H index of Prof. Thomas is 156 and has more than 120,000 citations. Prof. Thomas has delivered over 400 Plenary/Inaugural and Invited lectures in national/international meetings over 30 countries.
