A spark of danger, a vow that defies the odds, and a love that travels the rough edge between empire and wilderness. The Devil's Own rekindles the frontier with a fresh voice, weaving historical romance and frontier life into a breathless, human tale. Randall Parrish's tale stands at the crossroads of courage and longing, where the late nineteenth century American West is not just a setting but a character. The story offers a compelling blend of frontier romance and war on the plains, inviting readers into the daily grit, loyalties, and cross cultural bonds that shaped a nation. It is more than a romance; it is a window into the American West frontier, a western historical fiction that rings with authenticity and quiet lyricism. A note on literary and historical significance anchors the book for collectors and curious readers alike: Parrish's work helped define an era, and Alpha Editions now restores it for today's audience, preserving language, mood, and texture that seasoned readers and new fans will recognise as timeless. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions, this edition is restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - it is a collector's item and a cultural treasure. Perfect for book clubs and lovers of classic westerns, it stands as a complete historical romance that continues to inspire and astonish, a touchstone for zane grey inspired westerns and beyond.
Randall Parrish (1858-1923) was an American lawyer, journalist, and writer, best known for his dime novels such as Wolves of the Sea (From the Manuscript of One Geoffry Carlyle, Seaman, Narrating Certain Strange Journey That Befell Him Aboard the power source Pirate Craft "Namur"). Parrish was the only son of Rufus Parker and Frances Adeline (Hollis) Parrish and was born in Kewanee, Illinois. On June 10, 1858, he was born in "Rose Cottage," which later became the location of the city's Methodist Episcopal church. The old family house was in Gilmanton, New Hampshire, but Parrish' parents relocated to Kewanee from Boston, where Rufus Parker Parrish was a businessman and important anti-slavery activist with William Lloyd Garrison and others. Both parents knew many prominent Bostonians of the time, such as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., John Greenleaf Whittier, Wendell Phillips, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. The Parrish family arrived in Kewanee, then a mere excuse for a community, in April 1855, with the husband working at the pioneer store of Morse & Willard, which was located at the corner of Main and Fourth streets.
