Carol A. Chapelle is Distinguished Professor and Dean's Professor in Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University and founding editor of the Encyclopedia of Applied Linguistics (2013) as well as co-editor of the Cambridge Applied Linguistics Series. Her recent books include Exploring Artificial Intelligence in Applied Linguistics (2024, with G. Beckett and J. Ranalli), Argument-Based Validation in Testing and Assessment (2021) and The Handbook of Technology and Language Learning and Teaching (2017, with S. Sauro). She is past president of the American Association for Applied Linguistics, former co-editor of Language Testing, and former editor of TESOL Quarterly. Her awards include the 2012 Cambridge-ILTA Lifetime Achievement Award in Language Testing, and the American Association for Applied Linguistics 2015 Distinguished Service and Scholarship Award.
