We grow up on fairy tales. Fairy tales promise love will save us, healing will be linear, and if we're good enough, someone will choose us. But what happens when those stories become traps? The very myths we cling to for safety, identity and connection can quietly sabotage our growth. The Fairy Tale Trap is a trauma-informed, emotionally intelligent guide to unraveling the seductive scripts that shape our relationships, self-worth and inner narratives. Drawing from Murphy's clinical expertise and personal experience, this book explores how idealised beliefs can lead to toxic relationships.

Shelley Murphy has been a practicing therapist since 2008, bringing compassion, insight and lived experience to her work. During a career shift, where Shelley moved from the corporate world to become a student again, she began volunteering with women experiencing homelessness. This experience inspired her to pursue a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy. Since 2017, Shelley has worked alongside her life partner, offering trauma-informed, client-centred support to individuals navigating anxiety and emotional challenges. Together, they run a mobile and online therapy practice, meeting clients in their homes across the Adelaide area and connecting with others interstate and overseas via virtual sessions. Shelley feels deeply grateful to do this work in partnership with her best friend, and to witness daily the resilience and growth of the people they support.
