This book showcases some of the research that was presented at the RTESD 2023, the 3rd international conference on recent trends in environment and sustainable development, with topics that explore important global issues. This book covers cutting-edge research and creative solutions in four key areas: nanomaterials in biological applications, renewable energy, agrifood, and sustainability. Discussions about environment protection cover a wide range of topics, including how to manage environment resources sustainably, how to improve governance, and the effects of climate change. Chapters on energy production, urban and industrial systems, governance issues, and the crucial shift towards circular economies are all included in the section on energy. The Agrifood domain looks into innovative food processing techniques, the impact of climate change on food production, and sustainable agricultural practises. As a final note, the Sustainability segment covers a wide range of subjects, including the sustainability of the bioeconomy, cyber-physical systems, the effects of climate change, and resource efficiency, supporting the urgent need for a comprehensive strategy for achieving global sustainability.

Dr. Kumud Kant Awasthi is currently working as a Professor at the Department of Life Sciences, Vivekananda Global University (VGU), Jaipur, India. Prior to this position, he worked at the National Institute of Animal Welfare (NIAW), Faridabad, India. He is a nanotoxicology expert who received his B.Sc. from CSJM University, Kanpur, India, in the year 2002 and then M.Sc. in Zoology and his Ph.D. from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, India. He has extensive experience in toxicity assessment for various nanomaterials in different in vivo and in vitro models, with a focus on their safe use for drug development. He also authored/edited books in his field; got copyright; German and Indian patents for the innovative works. He is also a member of the sectional committee that organizes international courses for Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN) and has served as the course coordinator for Animal Welfare courses offered by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, India. He was invited to debate the ethics of fur at Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics, UK. He is a lifetime member of several prestigious national and international scientific societies. He is also a nominated member of the committee for ethical use of laboratory animals in research by CPCSEA, Government of India. Government of Rajasthan elected him for the environment audit program run by the state pollution control board. He remains actively engaged in research activities, serving as a member of editorial boards and a reviewer for various scientific journals, including Springer and Elsevier, as well as participating in organizing committees for many national and international conferences. Dr. Subodh Srivastava has completed his post-graduation (M.Sc.) in Physics from Department of Physics, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, in 2006, followed by Ph.D. in the year 2011 from University of Rajasthan. He is currently working as a Professor at the Department of Physics, Vivekananda Global University (VGU), Jaipur, India. His research experience is broadly in the field of renewable energy which includes the synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials (CNTs, organic polymer nanocomposite, nanoparticles, etc.), with some emphasis for hydrogen gas sensors, hydrogen gas storage, hydrogen gas purification, and photovoltaic solar cell applications. Later, the focus has been shifted towards two-dimensional graphene-based materials, i.e., graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO). In recent years, his research interest is towards the synthesis of different forms of carbon nanostructures, i.e., one-dimensional carbon nanotubes (CNTs), carbon nanorods, two-dimensional graphene, and MXene-based materials and with mainly focused on optimization of synthesis and growth parameters in order to obtain the different structural configuration and improve qualitative and quantitative yield in per batch synthesis for sensor and supercapacitor application. His research journey includes more than 100 research publications of national and international repute, 50+ presentations in conferences in India and abroad. His research work was appreciated and supported time to time by research grants from funding agencies like DST, UGC, MNRE, and CSIR. His research zeal was extended further with his research scholars. Besides the research activities, he is lifetime member of several prestigious national and international scientific societies. He is actively engaged in research activities, serving as a member of editorial boards and a reviewer for various scientific journals including Springer and Elsevier, as well as participating in organizing committees for many national and international conferences. Dr. Sushila is currently working as Professor in Department of Physics, Vivekananda Global University, Jaipur. Previously, she was working as an Associate Professor till December 2023. Prior to this, she was working as Assistant Professor at Yagyavalkya Institute of Technology from 2013 to 2015 and Jagan Nath University Jaipur from 2009 to 2013. She has completed B. Sc. from Maharshi Dayanand University Rohtak in 2006, M. Sc. in Physics from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, in 2008 and Ph. D. in Physics from Jagannath University Jaipur. Her area of research is nanofluids, fractional calculus, mathematical and computational physics. She has published 50+ research publications of national and international repute 20+ presentations at various national and international conferences, having citations of 2000+ with h-index-22 and i-10 index-26. She is also guiding Ph. D. scholars. She has published more than 6 Indian patents and 1 German patent. She is also involved in research activities, serving as a member of editorial boards and a reviewer for various scientific journals including Springer, Elsevier, Walailak Journal of Science and Technology, Nonlinear Engineering–Modelling and Application (De Gruyter), etc. She is also lifetime member of Professional Bodies like IAPT: Indian association for Physics Teachers, ISCA: Indian Science Congress Association, IPA: Indian Physics Association, etc.
