She was born on 27 September 1840 in Bow, London, to parents who provided her with a stable upbringing. Her writing, though often portraying idealized situations, was also noted for containing elements of grit and realism, making her works resonate with a wider audience. She wrote numerous novels, many of which focused on moral and social issues, aiming to instill values of kindness, duty, and responsibility in her readers. While her works were well-received during her lifetime, her fame has since faded. Carey's ability to address complex emotions and situations, particularly in familial and social contexts, gave her a place in literary history. She passed away on 9 July 1909 at the age of 68 in Putney, London. Her writing career spanned several decades, leaving behind a collection of works that reflected the moral and social expectations of her era.
