In the tiny town of Hampstead, a killer hides... Fifteen years ago, the double murder of two local women rocked a small Virginia town. Justice was served when Harry Lawson was arrested and found guilty in the brutal slaying of his wife and friend-or so the town believed. When new evidence surfaces proving Harry's innocence, the town and police are thrust into the national spotlight. After the initial medial flurry fades, only one true crime podcaster remains-Gordon Little, a man with a lot to prove and a dubious connection to Lynnleigh, Lisa and Harry's only surviving child. Inheriting the stone-cold case and determined not to repeat the mistakes of the past, Detective Callie Forde must investigate a town harboring long-buried secrets in a race to find the true killer before he strikes again.
The first thing K.L. Murphy wrote was a modified screenplay of a 1970s TV show. She and her siblings performed that show for their own built-in audience (mom and dad) to rave reviews (again, mom and dad!). Later, she moved on to high school journalism before graduating from college and taking a detour into finance and banking. Once she began writing again and focusing on fiction, the process felt like coming home. K.L. Murphy is the author of Last Girl Missing (Book 1 in the Detective Callie Forde series) and the forthcoming The Great Forgotten (November 2025) as well as the award-nominated Her Sister's Death,¿a January 2023 Once Upon a Book Club Pick. Of Her Sister's Death, Publishers Weekly said, "Murphy keeps the tension high..." and "readers will eagerly turn the pages" and Library Journal called the book "[A] riveting tale..." In addition, she is the author of the Detective Cancini Mystery Series featuring¿A Guilty Mind,¿Stay of Execution, and¿The Last Sin. Her short stories have appeared in¿several anthologies and she co-edited Crime in the Old Dominion. K.L. makes her home in Richmond, VA, where she loves spending time with her family, friends, and two amazing dogs.
