Autorenporträt
Hector Charles Cameron, born on 17 July 1878 in Glasgow, was the younger son of Sir Hector Clare Cameron. Known personally as Charles Cameron, he received his early education at Clifton College and later attended the University of Glasgow. In 1898, he earned a Foundation Scholarship in Science at St John's College, Cambridge, where he graduated with first-class honors in the Natural Sciences Tripos in 1901. He went on to study medicine at Guy s Hospital, qualifying M.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P. in 1905, earning subsequent degrees including the B.Chir., M.B., and an M.D. by 1910. Cameron was elected a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1908 and became a Fellow six years later. At Guy's Hospital, he progressed from demonstrator to dean of the medical school by 1912. In 1920, he chose to focus on pediatrics rather than accept a full physician s post. Cameron was editor of the Guy s Hospital Gazette for many years and delivered the Lumleian Lectures in 1925. He received an M.A. from Glasgow in 1906 and an honorary LL.D. in 1956.
