The Anglo-Italian poet and painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti (London, 1828 - Birchington, 1882) studied the works of Dante Alighieri from adolescence, translating his verses and drawing inspiration from the greatest poets of the 13th and 14th centuries for both his own sonnets and paintings. His English translation of the Vita nova, published in 1861 as part of the volume Early Italian Poets, is now back in bookstores in an edition edited by the Società Dantesca Italiana.
