In 1971, 17-year-old Zane leaves home in New Jersey, chasing freedom, love, and a sense of purpose. His journey begins in New Orleans with his first intoxicating romance and winds through the Deep South to California, marked by heart-wrenching adventures and difficult choices that test his moral compass. Driven by a restless search for happiness and, though he stumbles, rarely deterred by failure, Zane pushes forward, even as the weight of his circumstances and a growing dependence on alcohol threaten to consume him. Years later, settled into a career and with a loving family back in New Jersey, the past he thought he left behind catches up with him. Everything he tried to outrun comes rushing back-and now he must face the life he thought was buried forever. A haunting yet inspiring novel about the roads we take, the ones we avoid, and the consequences that follow.
Lee Schulz lives with his wife, Trudi, in the hills of Orange County, New York, about fifty miles north of New York City. He holds a degree in political science from Rutgers-Newark and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. After a long career in the evolving world of technology, Lee retired from Hewlett Packard Enterprise in 2019. In this next chapter of life, he enjoys travel, long hikes, running, pickleball, acting in community theater, and above all, writing. His greatest joy comes from time spent with his six grandchildren. Lee and Trudi have two grown children, both married. Their daughter, Lauren, and her husband, John, are the parents of Ava, Jack, and Hunter. Their son, Tyler, and his wife, Kim, have three children: Brayden, Gavin, and Alexa. Lee believes it's never too late to grow, to reflect, and to keep learning...no matter where the path leads.
