'Through a meticulous examination of historical and literary sources from the ninth to the eleventh centuries, the author aims to dissect perceptions, knowledge, identity, and the past in early medieval Italy ... The volume is a valuable and innovative study, serving as both inspiration and methodological guide for similar works on other Italian and European realities' - Ceræ: An Australasian Journal of Medieval and Early Modern Studies, 10 (2023).
