In recognition of his achievements, he was commissioned as a lieutenant general during the Indian wars, a notable accomplishment reflecting his leadership and bravery. Inman later channeled his rich experiences on the frontier into writing, producing works that offered insight into the challenges and realities of life during that era. His literary contributions provided valuable perspectives on the American frontier, informed by his direct involvement in significant historical events.
