This book is based on my thesis, entitled: "Formline design and the transformation of the trickster image in theory and art history: with special consideration of the ethnic groups on the Pacific Northwest coast of Canada." The book is an excerpt and deals with a separate topic from the entire thesis. It is intended to make reading more comfortable for the reader, as its reduced length makes it easier to read than a 600-page thesis. The book deals with the fifth chapter of the thesis, which examines the reception of Formline design and the trickster within white society. Canadian and American artists in particular engage with the trickster concept in their artistic work and, in this context, also process Formline design in their own creative ways.
