This study is one of the very few comprehensive studies of the history of the German youth movement in the English language. This book finally debunks the persistent myth that the German Youth Movement was a reactionary movement. This study bridges the gap between historiography and the theory of history by showing how bodily experiences and cultural practices can generate alternative conceptions of time.
