This book is about the shocking and powerfully tragic changes I have seen in this culture on my journey. The blatant discrimination I experienced early on is minor in comparison to the trends I see. A great deal of honor, the tenderness and humanity I witnessed throughout my life starting with my profound encounters with Fromm and Burdick have been lost. Using the narrative of my deeply personal, painful and costly life experiences I have written a book that hopefully vividly demonstrates the path we are on and offers a profound analysis and insight into the these trends. I am a clinical psychologist who practiced in Pasadena, California, for over thirty years. I was hypnotized by Erich Fromm when I spoke intensely with him at San Francisco State University at nineteen. I was also strongly influenced and encouraged by Eugene Burdick, at U.C. Berkeley, when I was struggling in my first year there. These profoundly human men left their fingerprints on my soul. I earned my Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Oklahoma after being rejected by eleven universities with my 3.8 GPA because I was a woman. University of Michigan was candid enough to state this openly. I have worked as a clinician at Patton State Hospital, Pacoima Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Ingleside Hospital, and Pasadena's Union Station homeless shelter. I did my senior year at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. It was a men's college, but Peter Drucker got me in to the school as I was married to his son. Many professors there saw my writing skills as did Peter Drucker. My passion has been to share the gifts I have but this is my first attempt at writing a book. I taught theory of intelligence at Cal State Los Angeles and developed some skills at speaking while I was there. My background is quite broad, but my focus has been around looking into anger, and how it can transform people into dangerous beings; to me, if you don't speak out about what you learn then life truly is hollow ground. I want to touch others with the knowledge I have gained on my journey.
