He is renowned for his collection and retelling of traditional folklore, particularly from Eastern European cultures. His work aimed to preserve the rich oral traditions of various cultures while adapting them to suit a broader, often Western, audience. Fillmore was educated at the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 1901. He dedicated much of his life to exploring folklore and myths, capturing the essence of these tales and making them accessible to new generations of readers. His contributions helped introduce many of these stories to American audiences, with his works being particularly beloved for their authenticity and ability to transport readers into the magical realms of folk narratives. Fillmore passed away on June 5, 1944, at the age of 65, but his legacy endures through his literary work, which continues to offer insight into the cultural traditions of Eastern Europe.
