Mundayat Sasikumar obtained his master's and doctorate degrees in Anthropology from the University of Calicut. He has conducted extensive research work in the tribal areas of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Meghalaya and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He was the former Director of the Kerala Institute for Research, Training and Development Studies of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (KIRTADS), Kozhikode, and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies (MAKAIAS), Kolkata. Presently, he is serving as the Joint Director in the Anthropological Survey of India. Recently, he authored Matriliny among the Khasis: A Study in Retrospect and Prospect (2019).
