Robert E. Howard (1906-1936) was one of the most influential pulp fiction writers of the early 20th century, best known for creating Conan the Cimmerian. In addition to his renowned sword-and-sorcery tales, Howard was a master of multiple genres, including westerns, horror, historical adventure, and weird menace-stories where seemingly supernatural events are revealed to have rational, albeit terrifying, explanations. His work appeared in Weird Tales, Spicy Adventure Stories, and other classic pulp magazines, shaping the landscape of modern fantasy and horror fiction.
