First in a series of short stories by Edgar Wallace, a master of suspense, retold by Alex Barcley and expanded into dark mystery novels set in London, during a time when some murderers were just ordinary people-hard to unmask and even harder to catch. Strange things are happening at the old Stamford House. Is it still occupied? Who's behind the screams at night? Could the previous owner, buried years ago, still be alive? What's the story behind the mysterious rebus? "Put on your raincoat and step out into the cold, dark streets of a London night from the past century."
