This is a true pioneer story that started over 100 years ago. There were two separate families who traveled west on the Oregon Trail, and both settled in Hood River Valley. A young man, a Smith, who had been born in Nebraska, saw a young girl from the Binns family (from Chicago) riding her bike. He fell in love on the spot, and declared he would marry that girl someday, and he did. Their love lasted over 65 years and produced nine children. All of these children were special and successful people in their lifetimes. This all took place within the boundaries of the Hood River Valley. The names Smith and Binns are still known in the Valley today. This book is about hard times, solid roots, and the love of a special family.
