She inherited his gift. She carried his secrets. She'll fight to claim his legacy. Violet Nash has grown up in the shadows of her father Charlie's shattered dreams. A WWI hero haunted by memories of French Champagne caves where he once found love and redemption, he flees from the Scottish Highlands to Tasmania with his fierce daughter, determined to transform barley into liquid gold--the whisky that will be their salvation. As Violet masters the ancient alchemy of whisky-making learned in Scotland's distilleries, she becomes her father's greatest achievement--and his deepest vulnerability. When Hitler's war machine rolls across Europe, Charlie cannot resist the call to return to occupied France. His destination is inevitable: the Champagne region where Sophie Delancré still tends her vines under Nazi occupation, and where a young man's reckless courage will demand the ultimate sacrifice. As Charlie vanishes into the deadly game of resistance and espionage, Violet must forge her own path through grief and rage, determined to reclaim her father's legacy. Perfect for fans of Rhys Bowen and Kristin Hannah, The Soldier's Daughter weaves together the whisky distilleries of Scotland, the vineyards of war-torn France, and the untamed landscapes of Tasmania in a sweeping tale of love, loss, and the unbreakable bonds between fathers and daughters.
Fiona McIntosh is one of Australia's favourite storytellers. She began her career in speculative-fiction and after worldwide success with 16 novels, moved into lush, historical fiction where she regularly hits the National Top 10 with each new blockbuster released into the most congested and competitive sales season of Christmas. She also writes crime and her Det. Jack Hawksworth series 'Hawk' has been optioned for TV while three of her historical novels have been optioned for film. Her children's picture book will be published in 2025, entitled Harry and Gran Bake a Cake. She hosts one of the country's most successful masterclasses that is highly regarded by the publishing industry, with an enviable strike rate, responsible for some of the newest popular authors in Australia. Her Masterclass debuted in the UK during the northern summer with a dozen writers from ANZ, UK and Europe. Married with adult twin sons, she divides her time between the UK and a farmhouse on the rim of the Clare Valley vineyards of South Australia where she follows her passion for baking, fine coffee (one day she'll roast her own beans) and for acquiring winter boots in the sunniest pace on earth. She's a self-confessed chocaholic.
