German reunification is one of the most important and recent topics in German and European history. It marks not only the end of the Cold War and the post-war period, but also the beginning of the collapse of the Soviet Union. Although interest in researching reunification remains strong, the Soviet perspective has only been dealt with superficially to date. This thesis examines the role, approach and goals of the Soviet Union in the negotiations on the foreign affairs of a future united Germany.
