Autorenporträt
Eigentlich wollte Robert Olen Butler Schauspieler werden. Nach dem Militärdienst in Vietnam arbeitete er jedoch zehn Jahre als Redakteur eines New Yorker Wirtschaftsmagazins. Während dieser Zeit entstanden seine ersten Romane. Mit dem Erzählband "Kinder des Staubs", der mit dem Pulitzer Preis ausgezeichnet wurde, erlebte Butler seinen großen literarischen Durchbruch. Mittlerweile hat er neun Romane und zwei Bände mit Erzählungen veröffentlicht. Butler erhielt für seine Arbeiten die begehrten Guggenheim und National Endowment for the Arts Stipendien. Er lebt heute im US-Bundesstaat Louisiana mit seiner Frau, der Drehbuchautorin Elizabeth Dewberry.
