Although Arthur Conan Doyle is best known for his stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes, he was a prolific writer whose other works include science fiction stories, historical novels, plays, romances, poetry, and non-fiction. The Stark Munro Letters, written in 1895, is a semi-autobiographical novel, which made use of Doyle's medical training and experience. Stark Munro wrote this series of 12 letters to his friend Herbert Sawnborough from 1881 to 1884.
