In this historical and sociological essay, author Bruce Ndenga Lotsina plunges us into the complex history of relations between the Bale (LENDU) and HEMA peoples in Ituri, Democratic Republic of Congo. A journey through time, from their origins to contemporary struggles, shedding light on the deep roots of conflict, whether cultural, economic or political. The book endeavors to describe how historical divergences, notably linked to land rivalries, colonization and mutual perceptions, have forged a climate of tension between these two communities. The author also explores the current challenges to peaceful cohabitation, underlining the importance of understanding the roots of conflict in order to achieve lasting solutions. By examining the implications of land policies, stereotypes, religious systems and education, he suggests ways of overcoming these divisions.
