Benjamin Morse Scot, a widowed lobsterman from Casco Bay, Maine, is known for his quiet acts of kindness and his deep connection to the sea. Beneath the surface, however, Ben carries the weight of guilt and a drinking problem that has consumed him since the loss of his wife, Bessie. Seeking redemption, Ben decides to confront his demons alone on his boat, cutting ties with his painful past. After a near-fatal accident at sea, Ben finds himself facing the reality of his situation. Offered a chance to quit drinking with medical support, he enters a hospital program where he meets Janine, a compassionate counselor who helps him navigate the rocky road to recovery. As they work together, a deep bond forms between them, and what starts as a professional relationship gradually blossoms into a love neither of them expected. Just as Ben begins to rebuild his life, a shadow from his past reappears. His former business partner, a man tied to dangerous connections, forces Ben back into a world he thought he had left behind. Ben's determination to stay on the right path is tested as his past threatens to tear apart everything he has worked for. In a battle of loyalty, love, and redemption, Ben must decide how far he is willing to go to protect those he cares about, and whether he can truly escape the shadows of his former life. As his bond with Janine deepens, Ben finds himself questioning what it means to rebuild, to forgive, and to love again.
