A coronal mass ejection greater than any recorded in human history has plunged mankind instantaneously into the Middle Ages. Dawson Stewart and Bill Hawks find themselves trapped in a world with no electricity. The electric grid has collapsed, along with the failure of virtually every electronic device. Extreme cold, starvation, corrupt officials, and natural disasters challenge them to simply survive. Every day is a struggle just to live. In spite of the death and devastation thrust upon them, they create lives by overcoming death, discovering love, and having hope.

Ken Gallender has always been able to spin a yarn. As all good Southerners do, Ken likes to "visit" with people, putting them at their ease with his personality and subtle wit. Ken lives in Gulfport, MS, with his wife and grand dogs. He is an avid outdoorsman, having spent countless days on his grandfather's farm in the Louisiana Delta, walking turn rows, hunting, and fishing. His great love for his family and country has guided his entire life. Ken's motto has always been "Family Comes First, Take Care of Family." His greatest fear is having his country descend into chaos as a result of natural disaster, economic collapse, or from the actions of corrupt and witless leaders.
