An intervention study with a quasi-experimental design and with these, a pre-test and post-test study was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of training for nurses in the care of women in the delivery unit at the "Mariana Grajales" Provincial Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in Santa Clara, Villa Clara, during the period from January 2006 to December 2008. We worked with 22 nurses, representing the total number of nurses working in the delivery unit. In order to collect information, a questionnaire was created to diagnose the level of knowledge of the nurses. A documentary analysis was made of competence and performance tests profiled in obstetrics and gynaecology to identify learning needs related to the care of women during childbirth. The research was carried out in three stages. The results achieved were significant. After applying the training, the learning needs decreased between (5.11-22.16) %, so we finally concluded that most nurses in the pre-labor and delivery unit increased their knowledge about the management of the mother.
