Travel has been defined as one of humankind's primary and universal activities. This interdisciplinary collection of essays calls attention to the extent to which travel and tourism have permeated our lives and our society. CAROL TRAYNOR WILLIAMS is Professor of Humanities at Roosevelt University, where she has developed and teaches Women's Studies, as well as the interdisciplinary bachelor's program for adults. She is the author of The Dream Beside Me: The Movies and the Children of the Forties (1980) and It's Time for My Story: Soap Opera Sources, Structure, and Response (Praeger, 1992).
