I live on Amelia Island, Florida, with my husband, David, our two Golden Retrievers, and three cats. We are fortunate to live on the intercoastal waterway and close to the beach. We enjoy our adventures at the beach and travels to the North Carolina mountains for the lovely cool summer months. Besides writing and illustrating, my other passion is running with my girlfriends in various road and trail races. Since retiring, I have had it in the back of my mind to write down my favorite stories.Once out swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, I had a rare encounter with a sea turtle. This experience heightened my fascination with these beautiful sea creatures. As a long-time teacher, I was always involved with reading various books. At one point of my career, I was asked to serve as the media specialist in an elementary school library. This is when I was able to immerse myself in wonderful books on animals including turtles. From that point, I started telling my own stories to my children, who then referred to me as "Ms. Dr. Slater." This is how my story developed into what you are about to read. I hope you enjoy it!
