David A. Powell is a graduate of VMI (BA, history) and the award-winning author of many books, including The Chickamauga Campaign trilogy and The Maps of Chickamauga. He is currently finishing the second of a five-volume history of the Atlanta Campaign, which will appear in fall 2025. The first installment, The Atlanta Campaign: Volume 1: Dalton to Cassville, May 1-19, 1864 (2024) was a Finalist for the Army Historical Foundation Distinguished Book Award, 2024. David and his wife Anne live with a trio of bloodhounds outside Chicago, Illinois. He is retired and writes full time.
