This book is appropriate to read to very young children and act out with them. Get paper towel rolls for telescopes, toilet paper rolls for binoculars, paper airplanes, grab a blanket for a magic carpet ride, and get ready to share in the adventure! Ty and Tommy explore the world around them, using everyday items, toys, and their imaginations. They create scenarios where they can go anywhere, be anyone, and do anything, through pretend play. This book may help families lay a foundation for pretend play. This is an important precursor to learning language, appropriately. Children who engage in imaginative play are using the same symbolic thinking needed to comprehend and use words effectively.
Marla Strappe lives in Delaware and is married to her high school sweetheart. She worked for more than 25 years as a Speech and Language Pathologist. She earned her degree from Montclair State University and began her career in New Jersey working with children with autism spectrum disorders. Marla also worked in school districts in Pennsylvania, Alaska, and Maryland. Her passion is language acquisition and language disorders. Her books focus on important aspects of speech, such as pretend play, comparatives, and categories. She created THE ADVENTURES OF TY AND TOMMY to use during her group lessons with students, and now they are available to the public. She hopes her books inspire children to explore and use imaginative play in their worlds, and for adults to connect with their childlike wonder. If the adults are having fun, children will have fun and learn, too.
