Born in Indiana, Stout had a diverse career, including service in World War I and work in advertising. His most famous works revolve around Nero Wolfe, a large, sedentary detective who relies on his keen intellect and the help of his assistant, Archie Goodwin, to solve crimes. The series is celebrated for its clever plots, witty dialogue, and the unique dynamic between the two characters. Stout wrote over 30 Nero Wolfe novels and numerous short stories, earning critical acclaim and a dedicated following.
