"Untying You From Me" rang like a prayer--a mother's psalm. Sometimes lament, sometimes determined. Flores has expressed her journey and quest to mother her son beautifully." - Tia Levings, NYT Bestselling author of A Well-Trained Wife Through the allegory of God and Satan unraveling threads of yarn, Flores unravels a deeply personal yet universally resonant story of having grown up in abusive environments and the tangled path towards untying oneself from oppressive systems - going from being chained to being loosed. This collection is a must-read for those seeking a raw poetic exploration of the Self, an invitation to untangle your own threads and seek the freedom to BE. Flores employs spiritual and cultural references through an unorthodox tale of resilience to tackle intergenerational trauma, mental health, and systemic inequality using biblical references not as dogma but as deep explorations of faith. By reclaiming the vulnerable personal journey of working out your salvation, Flores conveys to the audience that they too can reclaim their identity, their autonomy, and their God. For anyone working to free themselves from toxic family systems, religious control, or the weight of what was passed down: this is your companion in the unraveling.
Rocio B. Flores is a first-generation Mexican immigrant writer, artist, and mental health peer specialist whose work explores deconstructing faith, intergenerational trauma, and the study of "The Self." She is a mother, caretaker, and community builder - a self-taught visual artist and lifelong advocate for marginalized voices. She lives in Northern Colorado with her family and their loving cat. She is most often found enjoying coffee and Hot Cheetos. Untying You From Me is her debut poetry collection.
