In this book I bring together an investigation into the use of the 'Straw Calculator' in the teaching-learning process of maths during the 4th year of primary school and its contributions to solving mathematical problems, with a view to approaching multiplication with the idea of the multiplication table using didactic material in the classroom. Finally, the aim of this work is to shed light on the relevance of using technology, with a view to maths that is little used in the classroom.

Isabela Alcantara do Nascimento has a degree in Mathematics from the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro - IFRJ. She took part in the Teaching Initiation Programme - PIBID - for two years and is currently a collaborator in the Sustainable Mathematics Laboratory Project - LSM.
