The atmosphere, landscape, landmarks, politics and culture of Southern California inform both of these novels while the subjects they deal with are universal.Dave's third novel, A Girl With A Bad Reputation, is set in Newburgh, NY, and New York City in the mid to late 1960s. Just as Southern California informs his first two novels, so the decade of the 1960s informs his third. Unlike his first two novels, though, which feature the interweaving of many characters' stories, A Girl With A Bad Reputation is the story of a single young adult protagonist, Colleen Hanrahan, and is told entirely from her point of view.
