Born in France to a French father and English mother, Belloc later became a British subject. He was educated at the Oratory School in England and Balliol College, Oxford. Belloc wrote extensively throughout his career, producing works that encompassed poetry, essays, novels, historical and biographical studies, travel writing, and children's literature. His literary output is characterized by its wit, clarity, and deep engagement with both contemporary issues and historical themes. His essays, collected in volumes such as "On Everything" (1909), demonstrate his sharp wit and keen insight into contemporary affairs.
