Voyeykov Ice Shelf (66°20 S 124°38 E / 66.333°S 124.633°E / -66.333; 124.633), is an ice shelf fringing the coast between Paulding Bay and Cape Goodenough, Antarctica. Mapped by the Soviet Antarctic Expedition (SovAE) (1958) and named after Aleksandr I. Voyeykov (1842 1916), a Russian climatologist. An ice shelf is a thick, floating platform of ice that forms where a glacier or ice sheet flows down to a coastline and onto the ocean surface. Ice shelves are found in Antarctica, Greenland and Canada only. The boundary between the floating ice shelf and the grounded (resting on bedrock) ice that feeds it is called the grounding line. The thickness of ice shelves ranges from about 100 to 1000 meters.
