We Can Be Peace helps children and their families think about ways they can help make a more peaceful world for now and for the future. So often, it's easy to assume there's nothing we can do about conflict, but there is. Children have great ideas to help us toward a kinder, more peaceful school, neighborhood, and planet. This book helps families and teachers deal with inevitable-but not unchangeable- conflicts that arise, and gives children the time, space, and encouragement to think about how they can help. "This beautifully written book offers children simple, practical ways to choose peace and kindness, inspiring hope for a more compassionate world." -Jacqui Griffin, Author, Solicitor "A must-read for all children."-Julie Postance, author of Breaking The Sound Barriers "If you are looking for a great book to give to your kids, nephews or nieces that teaches them about the nature of peace ~ look no further! Mary Faeth Chenery's delightful book invites the reader to ponder the nature of peace; What is it? How do we get it? How do we make peace? Chenery thoughtfully poses the questions and invites the reader to engage with Peace in many different and creative ways. The illustrations by Leen Roslan are a joy; full of rich colour, loveable animals and nature. This book is suitable for all cultures and faiths."-Jade Rosina McCutcheon, PhD. Author, Poet, Support worker for survivors of abuse
Mary-Faeth grew up in the US, attending a children's camp on the coast of North Carolina where a kind and caring community developed each summer. She studied psychology and management to have the skills to create positive environments for children and adults. Moving to Australia in 1989, she continued working to build community and foster peace, and for many years was part of the Global Peace Initiative of Women. She remains hopeful that we can live as a world at peace, and understands this will need children to learn the skills to create communities of kindness, compassion and peace.
