Autorenporträt
Candace Carter grew up in a small town in the Midwest of the USA. She was privileged to belong to a politically active protestant family. Unfortunately, the family had to endure mobbing and repression in their bigoted, racist community. At the early age of nineteen, Carter left her native home to start a new life in Hamburg, Germany. After working her way through school at the Academy of Fine Arts, she took up residence in Karlsruhe. Since 1980, she has been a freelance artist in the region. In the beginning of her career, painting and drawing were her passion, but in time she moved on to performance, installation, and video. Candace Carter hosts a channel on YouTube, "Candace Carter Thoughts to Go", as well as the podcast "Kunst oder Grombiere?" ("Art or Potatoes?") on her channel and on Spotify. In 2015, she returned to her first and oldest love: writing. Through all the years, Christianity and Marxism have been the major influences in her work and life. Candace Carter was married to fellow artist Tutilo Karcher, who passed away in 2019. She lives in close contact with her children and the many friends she has been blessed with. Her first novel, "We Save the World", Part I one of the trilogy "New News from the West", is dedicated to her grandson, Anton Tuto.
