"A fresh and unyielding poet, Sarah Patterson teaches us how to ask the right questions in her debut book, What Color Am I? These poems disarm the presence of vague assumptions and refuse to acknowledge social norms. Patterson writes about identity, sexuality, and the reclamation of oneself post-trauma. By accepting the inconsistency of duality and flirting with traditional poetic forms, we see the beauty of misunderstanding and the freedom in not only creating our own personal narratives but accepting them"--

Autorenporträt
Sarah Patterson is from Las Cruces, NM, and currently resides on the island of Hawai'i. Sarah's poems are filled with startling truths and essential questions. Inspired by her heritage and her never ending journey to her identity, she writes to capture the resilience of the feminine spirit. Sarah began her writing endeavors at Adams State University where she fell in love with poetry and quickly pursued her MFA in Creative Writing from Western Colorado University. She was involved in the Scottish Universities' International Summer School Creative Writing program and published in a few journals like the Conejos County Circle Book. While completing her education, Sarah made sure to busy herself by taking trips abroad, captaining a rugby team, and learning how to quad-skate. She enjoys traveling, staying active, and, of course, the occasional poem if it can find her paused in the right moment.
