Northwest Flight 710 crashed in a soybean field close to Tell City, Indiana, less than six months later. Both of the aircraft, Lockheed Electras, had mysteriously lost a wing in midair. 97 lives were lost as a result of the two collisions. There were no living people. A second Electra accident occurred during takeoff from Boston's Logan Airport early the following October, and the allegedly failsafe aircraft became the focus of the harshest dispute in commercial aviation history.
