What is this book about? It is about courage and betrayal, bravery and deceit, honour and treachery, heroes and traitors, marshals and soldiers. It is about the war that has come to be known in human history as the Second World War. And part of that war was the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet people against Nazi Germany. So, my dear reader. In this book, you will learn about the existence of a third doctrine of the causes and effects of the Great Patriotic War, in which neither communist propaganda nor anti-Soviet hysteria can be found. We will endeavour to follow the logic of history and to observe the dry language of numbers and the pedantry of real facts. Perhaps the conclusions in this book will seem unexpected to some readers, but the author has endeavoured to be sincere and conscientious. This book is an attempt to analyse the events of that time impartially, a kind of 'side view'. Readers will judge for themselves to what extent the author has succeeded.
