When Charlie Dean, a headstrong farm resident for the past year, decides to leave and explore Southeast Asia, he and an Australian companion are captured by Laotian communists and held in a rainforest prison camp. In spite of the Dean family's efforts, both young men suffer an unthinkable fate.

Autorenporträt
Louella Bryant holds the MFA in Writing from Vermont College and Master's degree from George Washington University. After publishing two young adult historical novels, Bryant taught for a dozen years in the graduate writing program at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. Her other books are While In Darkness there Is Light, a Vietnam-era biography, Cowboy Code, a WWII novel set in Southwest Virginia, Hot Springs and Moonshine Liquor, a memoir, and the historical novel Beside the Long River.
