Jimmy Carter, der 39. Präsident der USA, wurde 1924 in Plains (Georgia) geboren. Nach seiner Präsidentschaft gründete er mit seiner Frau das Carter Center in Atlanta, das sich der friedlichen Lösung internationaler Konflikte widmet. Er ist Autor mehrerer Sachbücher und einer Autobiographie. 2002 erhielt er den Friedensnobelpreis.
