Most of us would have called the NRMA at some stage because our car has broken down or wouldn't start and chances are the experience was totally uneventful, but this is not always the case. During my 27 years as an NRMA Patrol, some of the call outs have resulted in a good story to tell and with the help of fellow Patrols, this book captures many of those strange, funny and interesting stories: Drunk members locking themselves in the boot of their car, the Patrol who was called to a car that ended up being a boat, people adding too much oil to their engine - till it was running out the oil filler hole on the rocker cover, the member who was late for his own funeral, Patrol officers being mistaken for Police officers, being called out to get the lawn mower started. It's all there along with a history of the NRMA Patrols and what they get up to - and sometimes it's up to no good. Any one with an interest in things Automotive should get enjoyment from reading this book as it looks at the history of the Patrol vans and also has stories about unusual and interesting things that stop cars and DIY repairs that have gone amiss. To quote Paige Turner's Review in the Nov. 21 Tawny Frogmouth: "I was either in fits of laughter or finding my jaw dropping in disbelief as I read stories of life as an NRMA Patrolman in White Knights Colourful Tales, a book that gives an unvarnished insight into what being 'here to help' really means." And "It's a slice of life, a written history of the working life of people providing an essential service."
