Dr. Morrison is the only person to have served in top posts in all three branches of the national government. She served the Reagan administration as associate director of the White House Office of Public Liaison and director of the 50 States Project, which studied discrimination in state laws and regulations based on gender. In 1985, she made history by becoming the first woman and the first Black Officer to serve as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Sergeant at Arms of the United States Senate. In 1997, she headed the Fair Employment Practices Office and served as Senior Legal and Policy Advisor at the Administrative Office of the United States Courts, a role in which she was responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the Fair Employment Practices Program in the Federal Judiciary. Now retired, Dr. Morrison has commendations from four U.S. presidents, two Senate majority leaders, two chief justices, and three United States Supreme Court associate justices.She is a fifth-generation Coloradan, a fifth-generation African Methodist Episcopal Church member, and a former fifth-generation Republican. In Denver, there is a park named after her grandfather, George Morrison Sr., who was dubbed "Denver's Godfather of Jazz." He was a legendary musician who played with Paul Whiteman, William "Bojangles" Robinson, Nat "King" Cole, Count Basie, Jelly Roll Morton, and Duke Ellington. On October 17, 2023, her grandfather was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall Of Fame. Her father, George Morrison Jr., was a school principal and administrator in the Denver public schools; her mother was an executive to eight Denver mayors. Her cousin, George Morrison Bailey, was the rehearsal pianist for the Stuttgart Ballet for forty-one years.Dr. Morrison has earned four degrees: a Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University, a Juris Doctor from the National Law Center at George Washington University, and a Master's Degree and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. She treasures her status as CSU's first recipient of the William E. Morgan Alumni Achievement Award in 1984. This award is the highest honor given and reserved for alums who have excelled nationally or internationally. This award aims to recognize a Colorado State University graduate who has attained extraordinary distinction and success in their field of endeavor and whose achievements have brought credit to Colorado State University and benefit their fellow citizens.She lives outside Denver in Aurora, Colorado.
